The language of the body

Communicating is a major part of our day-to-day lives.
We text, we voice chat, we blog, we tweet, we converse, etc.
But except the written and the spoken word we communicate with others in a secret language, which we all unknowingly know.
It's called the 'body language' or the language of the body.
It's remarkable how extensively we use this language.
When we receive a compliment most of the time our thank you is encrypted in a simple smile.
When someone respected enters the room we stand up to convey our respect.
And the most common one is greeting by shaking hands.
The instances are infinite.
Body language is a very important part of our lives; we use it to judge the over all personality of a person.
Here are some instances of good and bad body language

Bad body language traits:

  • Folded arms and folded legs. Crossing legs at the ankles. Sitting or standing.
  • Fiddling constantly, shrugging, or fidgeting while you talk
  • Inability to hold eye contact or looking down
  • Slouching
  • Constantly looking around
  • Hiding your hands (In pockets, sitting on them, in between legs, etc.)
  • Head slumped forward with spine curved, folding into yourself
  • Looking down
  • Touching your face
  • Speech fast, monotoned, quiet or too high pitched

Good body language traits include:
  • Straightened back and neck, with head straight forward.
  • Shoulders square, relaxed, and rolled back.
  • Strong, firm handshake
  • Hands are always serving purpose - hand gestures, touching others, enhancing your words
  • Changing facial expressions to match your words (Happy face for happy words)
  • Taking up space
  • Accepting attention, or not shying/hiding from the eyes/interests of others
  • Both feet flat on the floor at least shoulder width apart - standing and sitting
  • Looking at, or slightly above, the horizon when walking.
  • Chest out and exposed. Puffed.
  • Relaxed and calm
  • Quick, long strides.
  • Slow movements, such as when someone calls name. Head and body turns slowly, not snapping to attention.
  • Speech slow, deep, loud, and strong from the belly.

Body language plays an important role in some crucial moments of our lives-
When we go for an interview, when we go on stage in front of thousands of people, when we approach our biggest crush for the first time in our lives. etc.
But if you have a bad body language then don't worry it's not permanent.
Just pay attention to yourself and correct your body language whenever it goes wrong.
Just look out for the bad traits given above and replace them with the good ones.
All the best! May your crush be blown away by you ;)

The quest of happiness

All our lives we live according to the hypocritical rules and regulations of the society.
We try to change our body so we are socially acceptable, we keep our sexualities secret, fearing we might be condemned by the people, we even align our views and opinions according to the general belief so the society accepts us.
But people always find something or the other to make us feel imperfect and ugly. And hence happiness always seems like a distant dream.
Sometime ago I too felt the same. I was treated like a disease, I was made to feel miserable and worthless though I was not.I was on the brink of suicide but then I decided that I had enough.I wasn't going to waste my life over the silly morons who made my life hell.I decided that they wouldn't decide who I am neither would they have any right to judge me.
From that moment on I live my life according to me. Now I know who exactly am I, and thus I dont care what people say or think about me.And my dream of being happy is not a dream anymore. And thus from my life I've learnt that being fearless, doing what you want in life, and not caring what other people say is the only way we can find happiness.
So be what you are, dont be afraid of the world, remember you are truly alone when u loose yourself!
